We were so lucky to be visited by Aunt Sonja! She flew in from Utah and we had a lot of fun with her! She is Dan's sweet sister who we love so much! First stop - The Jelly Belly Factory! Just 5 minutes away from our house.
They sell jelly bean-shaped pizza and hamburgers at the cafe. The flavor was very bland, the food was over priced, but the idea is cute.
Next stop - the beach! We had a great time at Muir Beach, even though it was a kind of cold day there. While there, Daniel took Sonja, Lea and Jonah over to a rocky area of the beach to look for hermit crabs. Sonja then noticed in a sheltered outcropping of rocks a photographer taking pictures. She looked closer and the model was topless. So Daniel took the group to the other side of the cove where there was another strip of tide pools to explore without getting an anatomy lesson. Daniel was hiking through the rocks collecting crabs, when a "lovely" lesbian couple in their fifties informed Sonja that the area was zoned clothing optional and they were going to go skinny dipping! Retreat! The naked people are taking over! Daniel later researched the beach and determined that it is a public beach and it is illegal to go buff, but hey its California.
Dan brought yet another kayak, he looked great in his dry suit, out in the COLD water!
The next day we visited San Fransisco. We planned to go to The Aquarium and do a little sight seeing in the North Beach District. Now, when in San Fran you expect to see some "interesting" people and things, but we were really given an eyeful. While driving through the busy streets of San Fransisco on our way to the Aquarium, we saw a group of about thirty bicyclists with a police escort riding past us while we were stopped at a red light. Not so crazy you might think, except for one minor detail - they were completely naked! Thank goodness for the DVD player in the minivan! The kids never strayed their view away from the screen. Needless to say, Sonja was happy to go back to her sheltered life in good old Utah. And we were ready to go with her! There are too many naked people around here!

The aquarium was awesome and we were able to get the nature education we DID ask for. Above is Aleena, Lea, and Jonah looking through the jaws of a prehistoric shark. We saw many other beautiful creatures of the sea inside the aquarium.
