Father's Day

We enjoyed a wonderful Father's Day yesterday! Saturday we made Daniel a yummy breakfast of Swedish pancakes with fresh raspberries on top. We have church at 9am so we did the breakfast a day early. Sunday morning we had a wonderful enriching time at church and Lea and Jonah and Daniel sang in Sacrament meeting with the primary children and a handful of other dads. It was a sweet Father's Day song. After church, Dan took a 4 hour nap and Aleena cooked. That evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner at my mom's house with all of my siblings. We had a delicious marinated tri-tip steak, garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus, jello salad, spinach salad, and rolls. So GOOD! And for dessert I baked a raspberry pie for Daniel and we also had brownies and vanilla ice cream to top off both desserts! We really splurged - my mouth is watering as I am writing this post! During Dinner we went around the table, each of us saying something we admired or liked about our fathers. Daniel shared about his Dad that he appreciated his discipline that he gave to Daniel (yeah, Lea thought that was a strange thing to be grateful for), Daniel appreciated that he was given responsibility and trust from his Dad. Kara said that she likes how talented her Dad is, she admired how he is good at everything he does. My mom shared about my Grandpa's generosity. Lea shared that she loved how her Daddy wrestles with her, plays with her, tickles her, and makes her laugh. Jonah was too shy to share. The most special to me was when myself and my siblings shared about our Dad. I shared about how my dad had such a look of childlike joy in his face when he was happy, excited, or being mischievous. It was such a precious look that really shared a piece of his sweet spirit with us. Cheryl said that she remembers Dad laughing and thinking he was funny, even when nobody else did. David said that he appreciated how supportive Dad was with his activities - always cheering him on at little league and water polo games and faithfully attending scout camp with him. David always knew that my dad really enjoyed sharing in David's activities with him. Steven said he was grateful for my Dad's great taste of music. Whenever he hears a Styx or Foreigner song, he thinks of my dad. This was special to share with my family the good memories of my dad and how he affected us. After dinner, the kids and I gave Dan cards and presents and we played cards and then went home. It really was a terrific Father's Day!
